Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) Scholarship Programme Details:

The scholarship offers access to the Institute’s library and other resources to foster a stimulating research environment. Through this program, the Nordic Africa Institute endeavors to enhance capacity in generating knowledge about Africa and to facilitate collaboration and networking among African and Nordic research communities.

Eligibility Requirements for 2024 Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) Scholarship Programme:

This program is open to two main categories of early career researchers:

1. Full-time staff employed by an African-based university or research center enrolled in a doctoral program in the African region without access to international scholarships.

2. Postdoctoral researchers within five years of completing their PhD.

Benefits of Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) Scholarship Programme:

The scholarship covers a return economy class airfare, accommodation, a daily subsistence allowance of 400 SEK (approx. 40 USD), an installation grant of 2,500 SEK (approx. 250 USD), and access to workspace, including a computer, in a shared office at the Institute. Note that the subsistence allowance is provided only for days spent in Uppsala.

Guest Researchers also have access to the specialized library at the Institute, focusing on contemporary African literature and Social Sciences. Additionally, they can utilize the libraries of Uppsala University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Guest Researchers are also afforded the opportunity to present their research at the Nordic Africa Institute and visit other institutions in the Nordic countries.

Required Documents for Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) Scholarship Programme:

Applicants must apply online and submit the following documents:

Up-to-date CV with a list of publications (if available online, provide links).

Research project outline (5 pages):

Detailed research proposal.

Work plan (1 page):

Specific plan for time spent at the Institute, including research objectives and expected outcomes.

Reference: A signed letter of support from the applicant’s Head of Department or other senior scholar in the same field, confirming current affiliation and field of research.
